“The Beach Plum or Prunus Maritima is native to my home state of NJ and used to grow everywhere on the barrier beaches I roamed in my youth. Sadly, coastal development and erosion have caused a serious reduction in their population. Nana would magically appear every late August / early September with a bucket full of purple marbles. My great grandmother, who was transplanted from Wales to NJ, learned from her local community how to gather and turn them into jelly. Nana ensured I too carried on that family tradition of jam making. When I started SHP two years ago, I promised myself I would make it. We make ours the same way my matriarchs did.”
Every jar of Beach Plum Jelly sold donates $1 to Friends of Island Beach State Park.
